Blog: Next New

The next big thing that I see coming in the new media world is a virtual reality networking platform. Virtual reality and augmented reality are both two growing technologies in many aspects of our society. For virtual reality, we put on a set of goggles that will take us to another dimension, or a virtual reality. The way I see this happening is something like that of Animal Crossing on the switch. People will be able to create their own characters, who can look like they do in person or can be designed whatever character of their imagination. Maybe for security purposes, the user will have to take a selfie and the platform would create the virtual character for that person. People will have the ability to meet anyone they want, sort of like our social media now. The main difference is that you will be able to explore the world around you and be able to interact with others. You're no longer in a 2-D platform, you will now be in a 3-D environment. Right now, the technologies are no

Blog: Wiki So Far

What I have done, thus far, in regards to the class wiki is figuring where I want to contribute. I have so many interests and ideas, that getting this down was step one. I have decided that I want to contribute to the Health and Fitness section as I wanted to talk about the Nike Training app that I have been using these past few days. It's been a tremendous resource for me helping me cope with everything that's currently happening. It's also given me a new perspective in the way I see fitness and an overall healthy lifestyle.  When I got there I saw that someone had already started one, but it looked like it was outdated. Originally the app was called Nike+ Training but at some point, during the past few years (or months), they rebranded themselves to Nike Training Club or NTC for short. The same has happened to their other apps. That being said, I began working on the overview message of what the other person had written down. I updated key details that have changed

Blog: P2P

File sharing is the ability to share data, aka files, from one user to another user. Usually, this would include things such as videos, documents, audio, and meta-data. This can be done through a system of networks or over the internet. This way the other person can see or have access to your files.  P2P or Peer-to-Peer sharing is a community-based file sharing platform or way of sharing files. The files are added to a platform so anyone on the internet can have access to that file or files. Some popular examples of P2P file sharing are LimeWire and BitTorrent. These file-sharing platforms are basically like the wild west when it comes to sharing files. If someone manages to get access to top-secret files or ways to hack into a system, someone can post it up on here. Another example of P2P file-sharing system includes Lending Club. They have created this new platform for a,  "more direct funding process between the investors and the borrowers ... There's no branch network. Eve

Blog: Privacy

Privacy and confidentiality are basically non-existent on social media. It's kind of daunting to think that everything that goes online is on there forever. It's been placed and can never go back, despite, let's say deleting a post. Our privacy concerns are not just limited to what we post but also extend with what the companies are doing with our information. We're finally entering a new period now where people are taking privacy and confidentiality online a lot more seriously, especially after the whole Facebook analytics fiasco a few years ago. It's become more clear to us, the users, of how much information these companies collect from us. The reason why these platforms are free is that the companies themselves sell our data in terms of advertisements. That being said, governments are finally starting to take a stance on this issue and are coming up with stricter regulations for tech companies to follow. Some of them constantly send their users emails with the

Blog: Advice

If I was a new hire for Baruch and was in charge of managing our social media there are many different approaches I could take. However, before diving into any strategies first I would want to understand who are demographics are, this would include learning where most of our audience spends there time on. Each strategy would differ depending on the office that I'm working for and what the ultimate goal is. I think one creative solution that I've seen is having a student leader take over a specific platform for the day and answer questions people might be having. The student or staff can also do a day in my life. The school could also benefit by sharing resources through their social media and tailoring those messages depending on where they are going (i.e. twitter vs LinkedIn). Whenever we post any pictures or graphics, I would make sure they are high-quality content whenever possible of course. Nonetheless, I think the school has definitely gotten better with their social medi

Creativity and New Media Post 2

Creativeness can happen in so many ways online. We have different platforms where we can share an idea or thought. From Twitter to Instagram to youtube and now TikTok. All of which have become hubs for new content. Millions of people use these applications daily and with that comes a lot of data as well. Everyone has their own digital footprint on these platforms simply based on the type of content they create. There are two sides to these platforms, content creators, and content consumers, both of which have an impact on each other. Back in high school, I used to have a YouTube channel. This was also the time when I began to have a bigger presence on social media, primarily on Instagram and Twitter. Most people normally just consume other people's content and therefore share their content rather than create unique content. I like having a balance of both as they're both two ways to express yourself online. The primary reason why I started a youtube channel was that I noticed

Creativity and New Media

One of my favorite online characters as of recent is Rosa, a Latina high school girl, played by Adam. Rosa makes a parody of normal things Latina girls would do when they were in high school. What makes this character super funny is how spot-on Adam plays her role. Rosa can be found on TikTok but also has a mass following on Twitter and Instagram. This category of videos falls under the hashtag of POV or Point-Of-View where people role play scenes and create a little scenario. Back to Rosa, other TikTok personalities have taken Adam's character to another level and created a little universe. When Adam is role-playing a scene, he looks at the camera as if he was talking to someone else or as if there was someone else in the video. What these other people have done is play out the other role of the scene. My best friend and I love watching Rosa's videos. We constantly bring some of the phrases that she says that it now has evolved into the way we say things. For example, Rosa wou
