Blog: Wiki So Far

What I have done, thus far, in regards to the class wiki is figuring where I want to contribute. I have so many interests and ideas, that getting this down was step one. I have decided that I want to contribute to the Health and Fitness section as I wanted to talk about the Nike Training app that I have been using these past few days. It's been a tremendous resource for me helping me cope with everything that's currently happening. It's also given me a new perspective in the way I see fitness and an overall healthy lifestyle.

When I got there I saw that someone had already started one, but it looked like it was outdated. Originally the app was called Nike+ Training but at some point, during the past few years (or months), they rebranded themselves to Nike Training Club or NTC for short. The same has happened to their other apps. That being said, I began working on the overview message of what the other person had written down. I updated key details that have changed, whether a feature was added or removed from the application.

My next step in this project is to add a few more paragraphs going in more detail about the benefits of everything the app has and how it works. The original author only did a quick overview and that was that. Also, I plan on adding images of the application and how the workouts look when using the app. I replaced the original image with the new logo for the app. I hope to develop this portion of the wiki so that anyone wanting to know more about the Nike Training app or is looking for a fitness app can find all of the info they need in one place. Most of the research for this is coming from my personal experience as a user of the app, as well as from the Nike website.

Blog: P2P

File sharing is the ability to share data, aka files, from one user to another user. Usually, this would include things such as videos, documents, audio, and meta-data. This can be done through a system of networks or over the internet. This way the other person can see or have access to your files.  P2P or Peer-to-Peer sharing is a community-based file sharing platform or way of sharing files. The files are added to a platform so anyone on the internet can have access to that file or files. Some popular examples of P2P file sharing are LimeWire and BitTorrent. These file-sharing platforms are basically like the wild west when it comes to sharing files. If someone manages to get access to top-secret files or ways to hack into a system, someone can post it up on here. Another example of P2P file-sharing system includes Lending Club. They have created this new platform for a,  "more direct funding process between the investors and the borrowers ... There's no branch network. Eve...

Blog: Privacy

Privacy and confidentiality are basically non-existent on social media. It's kind of daunting to think that everything that goes online is on there forever. It's been placed and can never go back, despite, let's say deleting a post. Our privacy concerns are not just limited to what we post but also extend with what the companies are doing with our information. We're finally entering a new period now where people are taking privacy and confidentiality online a lot more seriously, especially after the whole Facebook analytics fiasco a few years ago. It's become more clear to us, the users, of how much information these companies collect from us. The reason why these platforms are free is that the companies themselves sell our data in terms of advertisements. That being said, governments are finally starting to take a stance on this issue and are coming up with stricter regulations for tech companies to follow. Some of them constantly send their users emails with the...

Blog: Next New

The next big thing that I see coming in the new media world is a virtual reality networking platform. Virtual reality and augmented reality are both two growing technologies in many aspects of our society. For virtual reality, we put on a set of goggles that will take us to another dimension, or a virtual reality. The way I see this happening is something like that of Animal Crossing on the switch. People will be able to create their own characters, who can look like they do in person or can be designed whatever character of their imagination. Maybe for security purposes, the user will have to take a selfie and the platform would create the virtual character for that person. People will have the ability to meet anyone they want, sort of like our social media now. The main difference is that you will be able to explore the world around you and be able to interact with others. You're no longer in a 2-D platform, you will now be in a 3-D environment. Right now, the technologies are no...
