Creativity and New Media

One of my favorite online characters as of recent is Rosa, a Latina high school girl, played by Adam. Rosa makes a parody of normal things Latina girls would do when they were in high school. What makes this character super funny is how spot-on Adam plays her role. Rosa can be found on TikTok but also has a mass following on Twitter and Instagram. This category of videos falls under the hashtag of POV or Point-Of-View where people role play scenes and create a little scenario. Back to Rosa, other TikTok personalities have taken Adam's character to another level and created a little universe. When Adam is role-playing a scene, he looks at the camera as if he was talking to someone else or as if there was someone else in the video. What these other people have done is play out the other role of the scene. My best friend and I love watching Rosa's videos. We constantly bring some of the phrases that she says that it now has evolved into the way we say things. For example, Rosa would say "Dude" or "A lot of people" with a specific accent, matching that of the Latina girls from high school. Just to point out, this is not a depiction of all Latinas but we all have or had a friend who represents the character of Rosa. On TikTok, Adam has over 2 million followers and has now expanded his presence to YouTube. This just goes to show how something simple and wholesome can get you so far via social media. People want something new and if they like what you make they will share it with their friends. It's now become a way for people to become successful and give them a launchpad for a career.

Here's a link to Adam's YouTube channel. This video is a compilation of some of his videos roleplaying as Rosa: https://youtu.be/9DtBZUyLz2g?t=24

Blog: Next New

The next big thing that I see coming in the new media world is a virtual reality networking platform. Virtual reality and augmented reality are both two growing technologies in many aspects of our society. For virtual reality, we put on a set of goggles that will take us to another dimension, or a virtual reality. The way I see this happening is something like that of Animal Crossing on the switch. People will be able to create their own characters, who can look like they do in person or can be designed whatever character of their imagination. Maybe for security purposes, the user will have to take a selfie and the platform would create the virtual character for that person. People will have the ability to meet anyone they want, sort of like our social media now. The main difference is that you will be able to explore the world around you and be able to interact with others. You're no longer in a 2-D platform, you will now be in a 3-D environment. Right now, the technologies are no...

Blog vs. Wiki

Blogs and wikis were some of the first new media that began to grow since the start of the internet. Both allow users to write down information and make it public for others on the internet to go through it. Blogs, on the one hand, are a bit more personal. You can think of them as a personal webpage. On the other hand, wikis are more information-based and used to talk about a particular topic or area. Furthermore, wikis allow for multiple people to collaborate and work on a similar project. This can be great for companies or departments who have many people on it. Wikis can be seen as a grassroots project that people can contribute to, and blogs can be where you talk about a piece of work or topic that you're interested in. One particular blog site that I used to use a lot a few years back was Tumblr. Yahoo decided to buy them out. However, the company has seen its user growth flatten during the past few months, according to the article. What the company started to see is where ...

Blog: Wiki So Far

What I have done, thus far, in regards to the class wiki is figuring where I want to contribute. I have so many interests and ideas, that getting this down was step one. I have decided that I want to contribute to the Health and Fitness section as I wanted to talk about the Nike Training app that I have been using these past few days. It's been a tremendous resource for me helping me cope with everything that's currently happening. It's also given me a new perspective in the way I see fitness and an overall healthy lifestyle.  When I got there I saw that someone had already started one, but it looked like it was outdated. Originally the app was called Nike+ Training but at some point, during the past few years (or months), they rebranded themselves to Nike Training Club or NTC for short. The same has happened to their other apps. That being said, I began working on the overview message of what the other person had written down. I updated key details that have changed...
